CHANGE LIVES CHALLENGE

Take my "Change Lives Challenge" and make a difference for those fighting blood cancers!!!

It's simple...and guess what, I'm going to do the running for you!!! Read on...

Last year I raisied just over $4000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and ran my first FULL marathon with Team In Training! This year I'm taking on a BIGGER challenge and you can challenge yourself a bit too and help me acheive another sizable donation for LLS!

Here's my plan:

I'M going to run 10 half-marathons this year and 2 full-marathons! If you didn't know, a half-marathon is 13.1 miles and a full-marathon is 26.2 miles.

So how are YOU going to be "Challenged" to "Change Lives?"

Each month, when I run my race, YOU make a (tax-deductible) donation to LLS on my fundraising page for $1 per mile. So, $13.10 for my half-marathons, and $26.20 for my full-marathons!

•How is that a challenge to you? The challenge is in how you CHOOSE to afford that donation (each month for a year.) Do you enjoy Starbucks often? Do you smoke? Do your treat yourself to lunch out each week, or maybe more than once a week? Do you shop for a special new something each month? Well, there's YOUR CHALLENGE and YOUR CHOICE to AFFORD a donation to help fight blood cancer with a donation each month.

CHOOSE to forgo one of your treats or vices! Think of it...4 Starbucks drinks are about the same as the $13.10 you could be donating this month to LLS in support of me and Team In Training! 2 lunches out would cover that $13.10 too! Less than a carton of cigarettes would cover that too!

So, where do you make your donation to LLS in my support? Right here, on my blog.  There is a box at the top left that will lead you to my fundraising page or, click on the following link.

February – Surf City Half-Marathon (Huntington Beach, CA) Donate $13.10
March – Honda LA (Full) Marathon (Los Angeles, CA) w/Team In Training Donate $26.20

Join me...CHANGE LIVES by taking and making this CHALLENGE!

Let me tell you, I came VERY close to losing my son to illness in October 2009 and if I can do anything to help another parent, sibling, child avoid losing someone to a illness, I'll do my best! I fundraise for myself, for my 3 sons, for my dear little friend Lucas who is just in remission from Leukemia, for my childhood friend Julie's son, Travis, who survived Leukemia, for my friend Brandee's son, Connor, who survived Leukemia...and for all those out there in a battle with blood cancer!

TAKE this CHALLENGE...you won't regret it!

Sincerely,

...Whew...

I've taken a bit of a break from my fundraising, between events, and even slacked a little bit on running (but, have done the Vegas Half Marathon just 3 weeks ago) and now it is time to get myself back in gear!

I never posted pictures from my NIKE Women's Marthon so, I will get on that tomorrow.  Look for a new post!  I truly can't believe I'm saying this but, I'm ready for MORE marathons!  Yes!  I'm fundraising for the BMO Vancouver Marathon this May...and it will fulfill one of the two full-marathons I'm planning on this year.  You heard me right,...2!

My plan for 2011 is to run 10 half-marathons adn 2 full-marathons!  TNT has become a family to me...and while I continue to train with them and raise funds to END blood cancer, I've also found life-long friends who I have come to ENJOY running with.  So,...here's the beginning sketch of my running calendar (beyond my TNT training):

January 13th -
13.1 LA (half-marathon starting in Venice with Lily.)

February 6th -
Surf City (half-marathon in Huntington Beach with Lily.)

March -
Still looking for something appealing...there is one in Agoura Hills and one in Napa Valley.

April 17th -
River City (half-marathon while visiting the Coils.)

May 1st -
BMO Vancouver (full-marathon in Canada...my Mom, Dad and other family get to be there!)

June 5th -
San Diego Rock 'n' Roll (half-marathon with TNT, non-fundraising)

July 31st -
San Francisco (half-marathon running the GG Bridge...hoping my Mom and Dad will meet me!)

August 14th -
Crater Lake Rim Run (half-marathon @ altitude)

September 18th -
Maui (full-marathon...I am BEGGING to do!  Don't know that it's truly possible!)

September 18th -
Disneyland (half-marathon...my alternate to Maui & probably the race I will be doing.)

October 16th -
Nike Women's (half-marathon...back again to tackle the hills of SF with TNT, non-fundraising.)

November -
Still looking for something appealing...Two Cities is a possibility.

December 3rd -
Las Vegas Rock 'n' Roll (half-marathon...Ry wants to train too.)

So...there it is...my GOAL + $4000 of fundraising for LLS with Team In Training!  I'm in...here I go!

Changes!!!

Hi, Everyone!

It's been a few weeks since I've posted to my training blog but, I'm still hard at work!!!  Lucas' quilt is well into the works.  The Tate family and I were able to raise over $800 in donations for Lucas...and this special, special quilt I am making him!  The last week or so, I have been accumulating all the donor names into digitized embroideries...and I am just starting to embroider them out!  The four-patch squares are all ready, the TNT square as well,...now it's time to get all these fabulous names stiched out on fabric and cut into squares I will incorporate into the quilt!

Besides working on embroideries on my computer, I have also swiched gears and am now fundraising for the BMO Vancouver Marathon in Vancouver, BC this May.  You'll see to the top-right of my page that my fundraising box has changed!  My NIKE fundraising totalled well over my committment of $2700 and well over my goal of $3000.  I actually closed fundraising for NIKE with $3967!  That's amazing!!!  I couldn't have done it without all of the amazing people who have donated through TNT to LLS in support of me!

My NIKE Women's Marthon run is in less than 2 weeks, now!  I am really excited!  We're into our training taper...and although I participated in the Volkslauf 2010 Mud Run this past weekend instead of training with my team Saturday morning, I am looking forward to one more long (but kinda short, comparatively) run with my team...and the send-off party this coming Sunday!  I'm ready to get my honoree names on my jersey and run that 26.2!!!

My run isn't all that's on my mind, though.  More fundraising is!  I'm hittin' it hard...and hoping to raise $4500 more for LLS by this May!  Thank you cards to my NIKE donors are going out along side new donation requests!  I have lots of fun fundraising ideas in the works...and one BIG raffle already running:  A CIVIL WAR for my U of O and OSU friends back in my home state of Oregon!  I can't wait to see which fans donate the most to LLS and who wins the DUCK and BEAVER quilts!!!

Yea, I am really into this!  This is a GOOD thing!!!  GO TEAM!!!

A Quilt for my Honoree, Lucas!!!

I'm really excited about this...I know you will be too!

If you're here, you know I'm raising funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and running in the Nike Women's Marathon but, if you don't, you do now. Most of you know I'm a seamstress too. Read on...

There is a local little boy named Lucas Tate that I am honoring with my 26.2 mile run. (For those of you who know Mrs. Tate in the office at Colombia Elementary School, this ...is her grandson.) I want to make Lucas a quilt. Here's my plan:

I'm going use the Team In Training colors: White, purple and teal. I will embroider the Team In Training Logo on one quilt square and "I ran 4 u" with my name embroidered underneath it on another square. Here's where you come in. For a $10 donation (to LLS) I will embroider your name on a square underneath, "I donated 4 u."

The deadline for you $10 donation is: Monday, September 20th, 2010.

Here's what you need to provide me:

1) A $10 donation (cash, check to LLS, or online donation to my fundraising page.)

2) Your name or family name to be embroidered (i.e. John Doe, The Smith Family.)

3) Your address and phone # (in case I have any questions...and for "thank you's!" If you do an online donation, you enter your info there...and e-mail is generated to me with that info.

You can visit my fundraising box on this blog.  Click on 'donate' to get involved!

If you'd like to make your donation by cash or check, give me a call.

Let's make this an amazing tribute to Lucas and his battle with Leukemia!!! The complete cost of the quilt will be covered by me...it is a gift. All of the donations will go to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!

Thank you!

Hittin' the Road to Gather Donations!

Let me tell you,...my little Riley is a trooper!  He spent two days going business to business with me to gather donations of gift cards for my next raffle.  We also handed out some donation letters!  Our time proved prosperous!  You're going to love my next raffle!

Everyone likes to go out on the town...well, how about going out on the town with a chic clutch filled with goods and services gift cards!  You got it...a little bit of 'ease' on your old pocketbook!

Gift card donations came in by the plenty for me!  Thank you, GOD!!!

Look forward to seeing Target, Panera Bread, California Pizza Kitchen, Elephant Bar, Crepes, Heidi's Deli, Body Exchange, Tracy Hunt of Karma Salon, Wendy Montgomery Rock Star Toes, and Rollerama in the next raffle basket!  And guess what, I might have some more great gift cards coming!!!

Thank you to all of the generous owners and managers at the above businesses!!!  Wow,...what a blessing!

More details to come!
